I’m Dr. Sharon Batista, a psychiatrist specializing in OCD, anxiety, perfectionism, and women’s and perinatal mental health.
Many people come to me after trying treatment and still feeling uncertain about what to do next. Their history may include one medication, several medications, or other forms of treatment-but the overall plan may not yet have been fully evaluated.
OCD treatment is not simply medication trial and error. Dose, duration, diagnosis, side effects, co-occurring concerns, and the person’s broader treatment history all matter.
I begin with a thorough evaluation. I review what you’ve tried, clarify your treatment goals, and develop a plan that is thoughtful and specific to your situation.
I’m also trained as a therapist, and-with your permission-I can coordinate directly with your therapist.
I provide telehealth care to adults located in the states where I’m licensed. My practice is private-pay and does not bill insurance.
If you’d like to learn whether my approach, availability, and practice may be a good fit, you can schedule a 20-minute Fit Call using the link below. The Fit Call is a brief conversation about fit and logistics, not a psychiatric evaluation or emergency service.
I take a careful, stepwise approach. I look closely at what has been tried, explain my reasoning in plain language, and coordinate with your therapist when helpful.
I look at what was actually tried. Before anything is called a failure, I check the dose, how long it was taken, how consistently, and whether something else was working against it. Doses that help depression often are not enough for OCD.
There is an evidence-based sequence for treating OCD and anxiety. It can be known, and it should not be medication whack-a-mole. At each step, you will know what I am recommending and why.
Your feelings about medication are part of treatment. I am also a trained psychotherapist. Fear of side effects, worries about what taking medication means, and past experiences are things I talk through with you, not things to push past.
Effective OCD doses are sometimes higher than pharmacists expect. I prepare you ahead of time, so a legitimate prescription does not become a new source of worry.
With your permission, I coordinate directly with your therapist so medication supports your therapy. Benzodiazepines during exposure therapy, for example, are like pressing the gas and the brakes at the same time.
Many people come to me on several medications that were added over the years and never reassessed. Part of my job is figuring out what is still helping.
Here is the typical arc of care:
The goal is for you to need me less over time. Follow-up visits are $415 for 30 minutes.

Triple Board-Certified Psychiatrist
I’m a psychiatrist and a trained psychotherapist. Most of the people I see are thoughtful, high-functioning adults who have been living with OCD, anxiety, or perfectionism for a long time. Many have already tried treatment that didn’t help enough, and many are women navigating pregnancy, the postpartum period, or the years after.
I practice the way I would want to be treated: unhurried, with an explanation for every step, and in partnership with the other people on your care team.

No. The evaluation gives you a clear picture and your options. What you do with them is your decision, at your pace.
Not necessarily. I prescribe when there is enough information to make a safe, appropriate treatment decision. A 90-minute evaluation usually requires additional follow-up before starting medication. A two-hour evaluation often allows us to complete the assessment and begin treatment when appropriate, but prescribing is not guaranteed at either visit.
Yes, with your permission.
Yes. The Extended Evaluation includes a written report you can share.
I’m an out-of-network practitioner and don’t bill insurance directly. If you have commercial insurance with out-of-network benefits, I provide a monthly superbill you can submit for possible partial reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan and isn’t guaranteed. I’ve opted out of Medicare, so Medicare doesn’t pay for my services and you can’t submit a claim to Medicare for them. Medicare patients are welcome to see me privately. Before your first visit, you’ll sign a short private contract confirming that you’ll pay for your care yourself. I am not a Tricare or Medicaid provider as well.
I’m only able to see people physically located in NY, NJ, CA, CT, FL, IL, KS, OH, PA, TX, or VA at the time of the appointment. If you’re traveling outside these states, the visit can’t proceed.
My practice is an outpatient specialty practice without 24/7 emergency response or crisis walk-in services. If you are experiencing acute suicidal thoughts, severe medication reactions, or immediate psychological distress, please call or text 988, dial 911, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please don't wait. Call or text 988, or go to your nearest emergency room.
